DESCRIPTION
The prospect to raise the height af an “hotel particulier”, at 34 avenue d'Iéna, is a rare occasion in Paris. Here we have the opportunity to both "finish the city" by aligning the building’s height with neighboring ones, but also to give a new image to the IBE with a modern and sophisticated architecture. We advocate for an urban architecture that respects the continuity of the city, but asserts itself as a product of its time. We reject pastiche and believe that modern architecture can enhance the old building environment. The IBE will benefit from a modern architecture that knows how to be timeless and light.
The elevation is expressed as an autonomous part of the building. The work in section allows to articulate the volumes so that the extension acquires its independence and does not crush the existing building. Its architecture combines the glazed parts with the massive parts. The elevation is discreet on the fourth floor, more present on the fifth and sixth. This subtle play finds the necessary balance for the old and the new to coexist. We can thus offer new spaces, widely opened to the Parisian panorama
